Valerian Calm can be used to calm all types of fractious, over anxious or nervous horses. It has been widely used to settle horses, during various types of training and competition. It is the classic calming herb but has fallen out of favour due to the FEI ban. It is important to stress that Valerian in only banned by the FEI and is still very useful in training.
Valerian Calm does not impair the horse’s ability to learn or its judgement. It is not a sedative and will not show a strong sedating action. Unlike sedating agents Valerian Calm is safe to administer even if a horse is already excited. Valerian Calm is quick acting. You should see an effect within 30 minutes, although it may take an hour to achieve maximum effect. This will vary between individual horses.
